Frequently Asked Questions

My mod isn't working after installation. What should I check?▼

First, verify the file is in the correct folder: PAK mods go in Content\Paks\~mods\, INI mods go in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Dawnwalker\Saved\Config\Windows\. For INI mods, ensure the file is set to Read-only. Make sure the ~mods folder name includes the tilde (~). Try starting a new game or loading a different save. Check that your game version matches the mod's compatible versions.

Do I need to start a new game after installing mods?▼

For most PAK mods (performance, gameplay tweaks), you can install mid-playthrough and they'll work immediately. INI timer mods like Better Story Timer work during the prologue but may require a new game for full effect on the timer. Always check the specific mod page for requirements.

Will mods break my save files?▼

PAK and INI mods are generally safe and won't corrupt saves. However, removing a mod mid-playthrough that changed gameplay values could cause issues. Always back up your save folder before installing mods. Save files are located in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Dawnwalker\Saved\SaveGames\.

The game crashes after installing UE4SS. How do I fix it?▼

Use the Dawnwalker-specific UE4SS build (not the generic one). Delete dwmapi.dll and the ue4ss folder to uninstall. Ensure no conflicting DLL files remain. Some crashes are caused by outdated BIOS on Intel CPUs — update your BIOS if you crash during shader compilation.

Can I use multiple mods at the same time?▼

Yes! Most PAK mods work together without issues. You can combine Better Story Timer (INI) with PAK mods like Uncapped Cutscenes. Avoid using multiple mods that modify the same game system (e.g., two different timer mods).

Do mods work on GOG version?▼

Yes, mods work on both Steam and GOG versions. The install paths differ slightly — GOG installs to its own directory instead of SteamLibrary. The ~mods and Config folder structures are the same.

Are mods available for console (PS5/Xbox)?▼

No. Modding is PC-only for The Blood of Dawnwalker. Console players cannot install mods due to platform restrictions.

Should I remove Better Story Timer before the epilogue?▼

Yes. The mod author recommends removing Better Story Timer before the epilogue section. Delete the modded Game.ini and restore your backup, or remove the Read-only attribute and let the game regenerate defaults.

Game updated and my mods stopped working. What now?▼

Check our Patch Compatibility page for the latest game version. Visit Nexus Mods to see if mod authors have released updated versions. For INI mods, verify your Game.ini wasn't reset (check Read-only status). Most PAK mods continue working across minor patches.
